Squad Battles Winter War - GOW

On the morning of November 30th, 1939, the Soviet Union unleashed its vast military might on its defiant neighbor. Soviet medium bombers attacked the Finnish capital of Helsinki, and immense Soviet resources in men and material surged across the entire length of the border in an attempt to crush the overmatched Finnish military. Instead of the rapid Blitzkrieg type victory Stalin’s high command predicted, the illprepared and poorly led Soviet Army marched into a frozen, desolate meatgrinder, learning the meaning of sisu, a Finnish term that could be roughly translated as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. Instead of fleeing from the vast Soviet onslaught, the Finns fought bravely, using their knowledge of the land, and pulling from their fierce national pride and "sisu” to inflict massive casualties on the invaders, and earning themselves the nickname of The White Death. The Winter War had begun.

StateShift

After languishing in limbo for years, StateShift has finally pulled up to the starting line. Released as a download-only game for the PlayStation Portable in North America, StateShift plays exactly like what you might expect from a three-year-old racer that could never quite find its way to actual store shelves. Its generic. Its unexciting. Its depressingly mediocre.

StateShift is a future-racer, cut from the same mold as the cult hit Rollcage. The game rolls out cliche boilerplate about a world with few natural resources left, cast into turmoil and depression. All folks have to live for are the StateShift races. You pilot a sci-fi roadster through a lengthy career, trading paint with rival racers as you roar toward the finish line. The gimmick for StateShift, though, is that your vehicle is in a state of flux. You can sorta-transform it during races through different button presses once that new "state" has been unlocked. States beef up certain aspects of the vehicle, like top speed Dragster. However, you need to collect energy in order to use your states.
